Credit note
Updated 07.10.2026
A credit note is a separate document for an invoice that has already been issued. The original stays, and the credit note has its own number.
Before you start
- An issued invoice (guide Invoice with e-signature).
1. New credit note
- Open Credit notes in the menu.
- Here you see the credit note number, the linked invoice and the amount.
- Click Create credit note.
2. Choose the invoice
- Enter the invoice number.
- In this example we choose invoice 2026-3.
- Click Continue.
3. Reason and type
- The credit note is linked to the original invoice. The original stays unchanged.
- You can change the date.
- Choose a reason, for example Subsequent discount / rebate.
- Full invoice (cancellation) cancels every line and the full amount.
- Choose Partial if you are not cancelling the whole invoice.
4. Lines and issue
- The line comes from the invoice. Quantity 0 means you are not crediting it.
- Enter the discount name.
- Enter the discount amount.
- Reduces open balance on the invoice lowers what the customer owes. Refunded to customer pays the money back. Customer credit (apply later) keeps it for a future invoice. Here we reduce the balance.
- Click Issue credit note.
5. Done
- Done. The credit note has its own number and a link to the invoice.
- You can also start this from the invoice list. Click More, then Create credit note.
Tips
- Quantity 0 means you are not crediting that line.
- If you are not cancelling the whole invoice, choose Partial.
