Credit note

Updated 07.10.2026

A credit note is a separate document for an invoice that has already been issued. The original stays, and the credit note has its own number.

Before you start

  • An issued invoice (guide Invoice with e-signature).

1. New credit note

  1. Open Credit notes in the menu.
  2. Here you see the credit note number, the linked invoice and the amount.
  3. Click Create credit note.

2. Choose the invoice

  1. Enter the invoice number.
  2. In this example we choose invoice 2026-3.
  3. Click Continue.

3. Reason and type

  1. The credit note is linked to the original invoice. The original stays unchanged.
  2. You can change the date.
  3. Choose a reason, for example Subsequent discount / rebate.
  4. Full invoice (cancellation) cancels every line and the full amount.
  5. Choose Partial if you are not cancelling the whole invoice.

4. Lines and issue

  1. The line comes from the invoice. Quantity 0 means you are not crediting it.
  2. Enter the discount name.
  3. Enter the discount amount.
  4. Reduces open balance on the invoice lowers what the customer owes. Refunded to customer pays the money back. Customer credit (apply later) keeps it for a future invoice. Here we reduce the balance.
  5. Click Issue credit note.

5. Done

  1. Done. The credit note has its own number and a link to the invoice.
  2. You can also start this from the invoice list. Click More, then Create credit note.

Tips

  • Quantity 0 means you are not crediting that line.
  • If you are not cancelling the whole invoice, choose Partial.

Summary

Credit notes → Create credit note → invoice → reason → Partial → Issue credit note
